I'm Moving!

Okay, since I don't want to just slap my children and friends silly, thought I'd come here for some sound advice on how to handle this...

I'm moving. I JUST found a place and need to be moved by the 15th of this month.

Now, every single time a child or friend has moved, I've gone out of my way, usually way out of my way, to help them move. It's a given, if someone needs help, I'm always here.

So anyway, I'm moving. NO ONE HAS TIME TIME TO HELP ME!

Everyone's working and then tired. Welp, tired or not, I've always been there to help out. No one ever wants to move or help another move - it's just an evil necessity of life.

This isn't the first time either - it seems I'm always available and yet when I need some help, no one has the time....

The moving part - don't like or appreciate the lack of help, but for the most part I can do it. But for my basement... it leaked all spring, it's gross down there, it's musty, spiders are everywhere (and spiders are the one thing that can send me flying away in terror screams). So even though I can move everything I have by myself (carry, push, shove, pull, cry, cuss, cuss some more, cry some more, etc.), I honestly don't think I can bring myself to get the stuff from the basement... I'm scared of my basement and all the creapy-crawlers that call it home.

So! Being a mature woman of 44 years... I want to stomp my feet and yell that I will NEVER EVER help anyone again if they can't bring themselves to help me out here...

I'd cry and try guilt-tripping, but that never works - and I do realize stomping my feet and shouting like a spoiled baby wont really relay the message I want... but it's the best I got...

So help me! HOW do I get my children and friends to return such a simple, yet highly dreaded, favor as helping me move?

Sounds to me like you are expecting them to offer help... you can't!  You have to ask.... and ask those that you have helped first.  I wouldn't take no for an answer and I would lay the guilt on really thick...    If that doesn't work, groveling does have it's uses.

OH! And ex-nay on the iders-spay...

Keep that to yourself til they get there... it's much easier to keep someone helping than to get them to start!!!  LOL

Good point Patti... Beer (Box Wine), Pizza and dead Presidents would definitely get my motivation level going!!

Offered food and drink... not only asked, but started to beg till pride kicked in and I said "I can do it my own frigging self!" And then I remembered the basement... someone other than me has to go down there and rescue my beloved junk from the basement!

I gave one of my son's my frig - it's huge and newish and I'm tired of lugging it ... thought that would guilt trip him some - which it has, but it's come back to haunt me too... he's a full time student and part time employee and his wife is having a troubled pregnancy... so I don't wanna lay too much guilt on him...

I HATE MOVING!

Thankfully though, the place I'm going to IS nice, has a DRY basement and I'm planning to stay there till dead.
