Another suggestion is to get to know their friends.  Offer them food and ask them all sorts of questions about themselves.  They don't want you to know so they will tell you about your own kid.  If they don't talk then tell them you would love to know more about them and maybe you will give their parents a call.  Always always ask them how their parents are.  Smile and walk away.
