A note from Ewaey admin:

Hello Ewaeyers.

Ewaey is a business. A business has to be profitable and provide a certain presence of profits and also money for its advertisement. We have made many many changes to ewaey.com's fee structure trying to get the SELLER's interest on our best
possible way and none of these factors helped. Ewaey continues to be a losing probability and now with the last try; even worst.

It is obvious to me that most of the members we have on EWAEY.COM cant pay for anything. Alot of these members
that cant pay have businesses on EBAY.COM. But they cant pay a very small fraction to support a site that would give
them its best to help them. Supporting the site you wish gave you enough sales is essential ! Without financial support no site in today's market can survive. I have spent thousands of dollars with ewaey.com. I never got one cent in return. All the money received has been put to its investiments.

EWAEY is a loosing probability. As you can all see; we've lost alot of members. The members we are gaining are not paying members. They are all choosing the FREE account.

We've lost about 20 eStores and continues to go dow fast.  The site is loosing strengh and only a hand full have paid the amount we asked. Only a hand full have paid or donated some money. The rest are all free riders and once started charging; These free riders are all running away. This means that these people do not love EWAEY.COM. They were here only to suck the blood and once the cow was dry; they go to the next one.

This hurts me alot because as a business man I can't continue to invest on a loosing probability. So as of today I will proceed and shut down all EWAEY.COM's activities.

It is with sadness that I do this but I have no other choice. I have tried for almos  3 years now. EWAEY had its chance. I had many dreams for it but most of you stopped these dreams. It seems to me that YOU do not want an alternative site that could stand up to EBAY.COM. You dont because if you did EWAEY would have done it already.

So I see it as if this decision was yours. The members do not want to support EWAEY.COM therefore It cant continue.

EWAEY's Data base will be deleted. Erased. The site will be innactivated as soon as possible after this email is received by you.

I wish you all GOOD LUCK on you sales and future activities in the AUCTION WORLD. I am getting out of it for good.

Thank you all  and many thanks for the ones that have supported and donated.

That really saddens me to think that an owner would go so far and blame the members.  Those words in my opinion should have been kept private to himself if you ask me.

The truly sad part is the speed with which he shut the site down.  Not really much notice to those listing there.  I hope that they all have their items backed up in some way.

I'm having deja vu (spelling unknown and don't care right now) ..... just like Ray with Wagglepop - only Ray's manifesto was 'everybody is out to get me, my sanity, life, wife, family, neighbors, lizard, pet gerbil are being harassed and threatened...

WoW....I do feel for any who (like me with WP) did NOT have their listings backed up!!

If it is closed-I wouldn't know, never sold or bought there-how come I keep getting spam from them? I joined once, can't even remember why, and never went back after one visit. I guess that's all it took to get on the mailing list, but I'm tired of deleting the emails.

EWAEY was shut down due to the unfortunate fact that most of you cant pay or will not pay any fees.
A site needs fees in order to be profitable and be able to support itsefl and create advertisements.
This is business 101. If you have a business that is loosing money for 3 years; you cannot arque that I should keep it online when the minute I started charging some fees the so called professional sellers took off and didnt even say goodbye.

I can say one thing to you all. EWAEY cannot go anywhere when the SELLERS are the same ones that are killing the site. If you dont see this problem which many sites also still have; you are all blind in your own dreams.

You and many others are not on ebay now because your product types are too cheap and will not give you the money to survive as a seller there. So you go around searching for cheap places to sell your 3.00 items or even less. and if that site reacts and asks for pennies from you as a site fee; you leave the site and go around accusing and judging the owner of the same site that gave your items refuge from ebay.com

My experience is very familiar to what I wrote above. I spent nights and mornings working on ewaey.com. I spent money I couldnt spend on it advertising for you THE SELLER to get more sales. I didnt ask for any money for 3 years!
When I finally say I need your help... YOU LEAVE THE SITE WITHOUT WARNING.

Ewaey will return but will no longer participate along the so called alternative auction sites. Ewaey will be away from the un-professional sellers that do not want to pay anything.
We will be distancing from you all.
Thank you.

Umm excuse me who do you think you are talking to with that tone? Are you blaming your customers for your failure to follow one business plan?

A site needs fees in order to be profitable and be able to support itsefl and create advertisements.

Agreed you need to be able to balence the books. Nobody expects you to pay there way but if you go from a no fee site to a charge fee site back to free back to not free and so on, what are people to think you will do next. In this case they should have backed up there listings and found a new home fast.

This is business 101. If you have a business that is loosing money for 3 years; you cannot arque that I should keep it online when the minute I started charging some fees the so called professional sellers took off and didnt even say goodbye.

Sorry how you piss your money away is your business not the sellers. Letting feelings get in the way like expecting a goodbye is laughable.

I can say one thing to you all. EWAEY cannot go anywhere when the SELLERS are the same ones that are killing the site. If you dont see this problem which many sites also still have; you are all blind in your own dreams.

Hello, I can say one thing as well. Ewaey is gone so what does this matter?

You and many others are not on ebay now because your product types are too cheap and will not give you the money to survive as a seller there. So you go around searching for cheap places to sell your 3.00 items or even less. and if that site reacts and asks for pennies from you as a site fee; you leave the site and go around accusing and judging the owner of the same site that gave your items refuge from ebay.com

When I finally say I need your help... YOU LEAVE THE SITE WITHOUT WARNING.

Who is this YOU that you are referring to? It seems to me that you are blaming anyone who is not you, the owner of ewaey. Alex, look in the mirror before you judge your own failure.

Ewaey will return but will no longer participate along the so called alternative auction sites. Ewaey will be away from the un-professional sellers that do not want to pay anything.
We will be distancing from you all.
Thank you.

Alex I commend you for your passion. I wish you luck in the future. Please when you do decide to relaunch ewaey stick with one plan out of the gate, stop spamming people as you did me (yes I requested Alex to remove my email address from the email list a few months ago, if he listened and did as he said he did this thread would never have been here because I wouldn't have gotten the email in the OP).

Best of luck to you Alex, live free and prosper!

As mentioned in the previous post, Alex needs to look in the mirror before he blames his sellers all the time.

I'm 1 of those "cheap under $5/ item" sellers. But with what I sell I have to be. I'm competing with mega national chains that sell seeds in $2-3 packets. I'm also competing with big web sellers that have thousands of different seed packs also in the $2-3 range.

I make it by having more rare and unusual varieties and a bit larger seed pack for the same price range.

I was also 1 of the first to criticize Ewaey when he came to PSU, but also 1 of the first to actually give the site a try. I did make a couple of sales, but that was about it.

I'm also 1 of the bigger critics of up-front fees -- NO WAY Jose. But I will gladly pay a FVF. A FVF means I've actually sold something and the site does deserve their cut.

But sites that charge up-front fees get bloated and lazy. Best example is eBay. They probably make 2 or 3 times the money off of the up-front listing ( and worse the re-listing) fees, so they don't care if anyone makes sales or not. Good for them, bad for us. It seems like so much of what they have done the last few years has been to make it harder to make a sale. We've all seen the sell-thru rate go down and down. And it isn't because the site is flooded with more and more listings. If anything eBay listings have somewhat dropped the last 2 years.

Anyway, for anyone with an alt site --  don't even think about charging listing feew until you have a track record of buyers and sales. Probably at least 2 years down the road at least. Most of us won't object to FVFs tho. I know a 2-4% fee on items under $5 isn't going to generate much. Perhaps a "minimum FVF" of 5-10 cents/ item would help. I don't think most sellers would object to that and it might eliminate some of the junk eBook penny sellers.

Just some of my ideas and things to think about for owners,

Alex...man I think you missed the point these people have been trying to make...and I have tried to warn you about.

Presentation is the key. Knowing when to chill and discuss things rationally will make sellers and buyers see you as much more professional. You have constantly become the talk of the town so to speak simply because of the unprofessional manner that you emit.

I don't think most people mind paying fees once the site has proven itself. Personally I don't like fees and would rather pay a larger FVF at the end .( This means I've actually sold something and I am happy to share in my good fortune. ) I also don't mind upgrade fees that are only paid if an item is sold.   So the fee thing can be circumventated to work out well for the seller and the site.

You've had some excellent promotional ideas. Some that should have put Ewaey in the top 20 sites but because of your lack of professionalism, you have pretty much alienated the very people you were trying to impress. People that COULD have helped Ewaey develop into a real contender.

Once again, you may simply ignore good advice. Your perogative. But I do implore you to look at the bigger picture. Where do you want Ewaey to be next year? With your history, do you really think people will follow you? Maybe now is a good time to think about adding a PR or manager to the site. Someone that can answer the questions, who has the persona that members prefer to deal with. Someone who can keep it together when things don't go as planned.

You may still be able to dust Ewaey off and get it back on track but only if you are willing to realize that you really don't handle the public very well and could use a little help in that department!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Cherry Pits,

Very good advice to Alex. Don't hold your breath tho on him taking it. It's just about exactly the same advice I and several others gave him on the PSU forum well over a year ago when he had his first "hissy fit".

Alex is like the little boy that owns the football. If he doesn't get to play quarterback, he takes his football and goes home. Unfortunately for Alex, there are "footballs" galore all over the place for us to play ball with. The little kid also doesn't realize that it takes more than just the "quarterback" to make a game out of it.

Right now in the auction world, we sellers don't NEED another site. We need a site that has buyers. And frankly if I have to work hard to draw my own buyers to a new site, I'll be doing that work drawing them to MY site, not some site that may not be around next week. I'm the 1 that controls my site, not someone that may throw a trantrum at the drop of a hat.

Maybe all these sites that have gone "poof" lately have actually done some good. It's shown us that we need to focus more on our own sites instead of depending on others.

LOL no breath holding here. Done been through it once with Alex...but he knows more about everything than anybody!!! Just because we have sat back and watched sites come and go, test drove more than 100 auction types sites and ahve been doing this for how l;ong??? How did we dare think that we might actually have some valuable insight to share. Shame on us!!!

Let me get my wet noodle out and start flogging. I'll start with Erin since she isn't around to defend herself!!

Well, if sellers don't pay their site fees... I know where the suspend button is. Especially if they have been sent an invoice to pay site fees.

"What do you mean my account is suspended...I paid you once already this month"
Yes, and your account is over $100 due again.
