Now ya know why I decided not to go all sarcastic on the newbies. The ones that would 'get it' would probably think it was directed at everyone but them and the rest.....it would have zipped right over their pointed little heads!
But hey...all isn't lost. They can serve as a bad example for someone else.

Yah, last week I was kind of upset that most of them were ignoring most of the good advice on the boards and were just spinning their wheels. But then I got the flu and had some time to be off the boards and think about it all. I sure hope we weren't as crazy as some of them are acting right now.
The situation was somewhat different 3 years ago. We were in a way trailblazers. There are so many 1/2 way viable sites now and we have helped get rid of a few of the truely bad sites. While I know I was mad at eBay for the fee changes and all that, I wasn't looking to "hurt" them like a lot of these newbies, but to find an option. Maybe that's a fact of the changes in our society right now. Everyone wants to get even. They haven't figured it out yet that the best way to "get even" is to go out and "make it on your own".
There is also such an "information" overload now compared to 3 years ago. Yes a few of the alt sites had already been around, but they weren't getting much talk and exposure. Many of us jumped on the WP-1 bandwagon. When that quickly fizzled, we started looking again. That's about the same time that Adam started promoting Blujay. I also went over to iOffer somewhere around that same time. Beyond that tho, there were'n a whole lot of good choices.
I think those of us that have been thru it already, will just need to wait til the newbies get over their anger and get to a "grieving" or "acceptance" stage. Then maybe some will listen and actually do something to help themselves. Right now we just need to step back and let them find out for themselves. Anything else is like trying to "reason with a donkey".

I hear ya on reasoning with a donkey.....geez - they do wear me out and we were 'not that way'. Quite frankly, even if I were a PS and had been there until now, I would not be 'that way'. They've actually brought some of that which I did not like about the ebaY boards with them - I can't describe it but it's intense.
I'm passionate about things, but not to the point of popping veins in my forehead. I watch some of these folks and just want them to get a vallium or something...
I also hope that all those going over to ebid realize that the dude they're following likes his referral points the most! He prolly has enuf to get an ipod now or something....
I'm amazed at those willing to drop $50 for a membership, lifetime or not, without ANY data to suggest the 500k is real, there are sales, etc. I could not find a single person over there with any significant feedback. The largest I found - imports from the Yahoo days!
I'm hopeful that it settles within the next 30+ days. Love the new members, but need them to be forward thinking vs. BMW. I can't live in that place!!
Come on Cherry Pits.....jeez - you used to be fun and right in the middle of the mayhem!!!

Isn't that the truth. They seem angrier and more naive than the last exodus in 06, I missed the 05 broohaha.
Well the ebay boards are just as bad full of the same little hints to go to the moon, the river, the bird, the pop, etc....
You just wanna scream and say stop, don't close your store and run into the fire. Then again they wouldn't get it.

Makes me want to just spam the boards posting: "Stupidity is it's own punishment"
Seriously, this bunch is the worst I've ever seen and I've been around for alot of them. The '08 crowd has come up with more off the wall stuff and seems to have more of an 'entitlement' attitude than any of the others ever did.

No on both accounts. The '05/'06/'08 protests were smaller than many of the past: the '99 reserve fee protest and move to Gold's and Amazon, the '00 banner ad protest and million auction march to Yahoo and other sites, the '01 checkout protest and the move of millions of auctions to Bidville, Bidbay, Carnaby, ePier (which at one point had over 500,000 listings), etc.
There are actually fewer really viable auction sites then there were several years ago when Amazon, Yahoo, Bidbay, Carnaby, Bidville etc all topped 1 million listings each and were all spending millions on their sites. What the OAI is left with now is a series of out-of-the-box jokes with virtually no sales and virtually no funding to expand their sites...case in point, a site that many on this board cheer for/list on that had a whopping $5300 in sales last month...that's barely enough to support 1 seller let alone the 3500 that are members of the site (many of whom have moved to the site with the hope of replacing their eBay sales....ummm 5300/3500 is a little over $1.50 each...not going to replace much with that)

The probably with the herd of '08 boycotts is that they are reacting with
nothing
but anger. Not to mention the completely disorganization of helping one another move away from eBay into more profit-producing sites (whether it be an alternative or their own).
What the '08 crowd wants is to force eBay's hands. I have not seen such an outlash of this attitude in the past. Oh sure, there were some who did that; but the majority was wanting to move away so that eBay would be forced to live without their business. Of course, they hoped losing enough business would get eBay's attention. This crowd wants to force eBay into what they think is the right way without even much attempting to really succeed elsewhere.
Those silly fools that I'm seeing at PSU somehow truly believe they built eBay. As sellers, they may have
contributed
to eBay's success, but they did build it. That's like saying my customers built my business. No, their business helped me succeed, but it did not build my business....I built it by going out and bringing in my customers by various methods.
When you have a group of people screaming "Call Michael Moore," "Write GM," etc., you know you are dealing with the runts of the litter. And just as nature does, the herd shall be thinned.
Sadly enough, they will blame eBay for their failures rather than looking at themselves.

Now wait a minute BBHC...ya know it was far bigger when WE were at the helms!! LMAO
And yes....we expect these new sites to give us the same revenue as Ebay....NOT. Folks with any reasoning running through their veins know there will probably never be a real single alternative to Ebay. For those that believe the small sites will actually be Ebay's rival....I have land on Mars I can sell you ...CHEAP!!
The newbies are the people that were on Ebay this past round that defended Ebay on the boards. So they are taking it personal......as they should.....but they should have done it sooner. Instead of waiting for Ebay to gouge out their eyes, they should have started diversifying back when it started smelling more than ripe. Know what I mean? Most of these folks are angry......angry at Ebay, yes....but angrier at themselves for denying what people have been saying all along. These are the same people that will run back to Ebay crying because there isn't another Ebay out there, instead of moving on and building their own presence online.
Erin...I was NEVER in the midst of any mayhem....NEVER I tell you!! Always calm cool and collected I was. And if you don't believe me...BITE ME!!!!!!

- I have a saying.....on Friday's, my give-a-$hiT meter has run dry for the week!
The photo above is 'exactly' what I feel like. And - I'm typically one who is reasonably patience with new members over there and tries to be very helpful. BUT between the darn forum giving error messages every time I try to post and the self-pointed idiots that are rambling about only God knows - and ... it's Friday - I prolly need to stay away!!
One poor person posted 'I've tried alternatives, but the site didn't bring me customers'....'I had no sales'....
I did respond, then left - my response was 'direct' - but the 'I tried..... usually means that a seller on ebaY with no experience using html, marketing, promoting, etc. listed 2-20 items - all as auctions - never had a look, never marketed, never did notta - and gave up!
OK...I was not around in the last century (albeit. old enuf to be) for the mayhem from sellers, but it is apparent to me that any seller desiring to be successful has or is looking at their business and making different choices.
Those who think that ebaY is going to stand up, and say - You are right, we were wrong, come back here cry-babies, and we'll give ya what you want - are in a league of their own.
For those of us that do use alternative sites as our solution, in lieu of or in addition to other business solutions - promoting 'ourselves' is very different than promoting the site.
I fly my banner for my store at PH. Why? Not to promote the site. I don't have a referral link and I am not in this to get buddy points to splurge on an electronic item at another site. I'm promoting 'my items' on that site.
I do switch it up from time to time and also fly my ecrater store with the same banner. I change it depending upon which has the most items and I do catch up from time to time.
I also promote my eCrater store more from Squidoo - so....testing 'things' to see if either, both or neither generate traffic and sales. I did spend time yesterday submitting both + my lame site to a variety of places that would take them.
So - if anybody cares, the one message I got in the last 3 years - promote and market yourself ---- no matter your business choice. The sites to me are but an avenue; some doing better than others.
Cherry Pit - Bite Me is my greeting on my mobile phone...my boys think that's too darn funny! I use that phrase often - as needed....

I had actually tried both Yahoo and ePier pre 05 (maybe 02, 03 ?) but got 1 sale on Y and none on ePier. Neither were worth my time and energy then or now. I had listings on Y nearly up til the close. Only had 3 sales in about 2-3 years and 2 of them were NPB.
With the very same listings on BJ and eC I get slow but steady sales. And my web site has been doing quite well for several years now. But I've also had my own web site for as long as I was selling on eBay, in fact possibly a bit longer.
What so many of the newbies don't seem to get is that it takes time, lots of time. Probably 6 mts to a year away from and/or in addition to eBay. Way too many give it a couple of weeks and give up.
The other thing is why do you think eBay pick this time of the year to cause the havoc ?? It's traditionally the slow down in sales time. Especially compared to the pre-Christmas sales people were just used to having. They know sellers aren't going to get the same numbers at alt sites NOW. Heck they aren't getting them at eBay either, but the newbies don't think of that. You have to compare Feb with Feb. Not Feb with Dec.
It's just so frustrating to be up on the hill watching the coming train wreck and know you really can't do anything to stop it. There are actually 2 trains on different tracks. 1 is the eBay train that is
slowly
heading toward self destruction. The other is the "newbie train" heading toward self disappointment. Hopefully at least a few of the newbies will jump off that train before the wreck.
