Our new addition to the family... :)

This is Mackenzie... she is a two year old golden that we were lucky enough to find at the SPCA last week.  She came home two days ago and is adjusting nicely.  Surprisingly, we've only called her Dusty a couple of times (still miss our Golden boy)... but Mackenzie is a doll baby.

She did have a peepee accident on my new hallway carpeting (thanks a lot) and she has a touch of kennel cough and this morning she hocked a lugie on my bedroom carpet (ew...) but other than that, she is cuddling with her chew man and doing very well.  In the first pic, you can tell by the droopy eyes that she's not feeling 100%... and in the last pic, Bill had to digitally insert black eyes from a software program because the reflection in her pupils was so bad it shined at the camera!!!  So, even though she looks like a cartoon character... no laughing!!!!! 

This is a good description of how our last couple of days have been...

She looks like she's loving her new home and new family!  2 accidents ain't all bad - here's to maybe no more - eh?

My dog is a rescue, and we've had him now about 6-7 years.  He's always had a sensitive belly so I always try to get the 3 boys (hubbie too) to minimize rough-housing after meals.  Long story short, the other night - Max blew chunky chunks and they went about 2-3 feet - which was a new experience for us all... 

BUT ---- love that dog, chunks and all - ya know?

She's starting to get more comfy... she isn't trained at all... AT ALL!!   

She doesn't even know "sit" "stay" or "lay down"  The people didn't work with her at all so we are just doing a little at a time.  It shouldn't be too hard since she is very smart and she has good manners to begin with.  She just needs some direction and to be taught the basic commands.  I think that training is very important because it removes the chaos of the house and allows the dog to enjoy life without being in trouble all the time. 

We were so lucky with Dusty.  He was the best dog.  I had a dream about him the night before we went to go pick up Mackenzie.  I dreampt that we picked her up and brought her home and when we opened the door, Dusty was standing in the kitchen waiting for us.  He was so excited to see us and was thrilled to have a playmate.  When I woke up, it took me a minute to remember that he was gone and when I did, I was sad all over again.  Maybe my dream was his way of telling me it's OK to have another golden because there'll never be another like him!!  I really miss him, even now...

Ya know I do feel that he did this.  What are the odds that Bill would go to the SPCA the day after she is brought in?  You never see a purebred golden in the SPCA!!!  We still cannot believe she is ours... she is so good!!!  We did have to take her to the vet because her kennel cough got really bad.  She's on ani-biotics for a few more days but she is so much better than she was.  The vet thinks she may have had a touch of doggie bronchitis.  He checked her for lyme and heart worms and took blood for a white cell count to rule out pneumonia.... but she was OK.

But what a good girl she is... she is now sitting and laying down (we are working on stay), never had another accident in the house and in fact, doesn't need to be in the crate at all when we go to work now.  Every day I come home and check my bedroom furniture legs for bite marks!!!    I think I would pass out if she chewed my new furniture which I just got last May, two weeks before we lost Dusty.   But it looks like she doesn't do anything all day but sleep, bite her toys and play with the cats (which I'm sure the cats are thrilled!!).  I think she thinks she's a cat... she is infatuated with them.  I am also cat sitting my moms cat for a couple of weeks while she's on vacation and this cat drives her crazy!!  He jumps on her tail when she's laying down and when she goes to get up, he tear asses  out of the room... it's hysterical!!!!

Believe me, I understand about the kitty... it's so hard to lose them... they are members of the family...

Congrats on the new addition. And yes they are family members regardless what insurance companies say! When one leaves it feels just like family...usually a child. I always tell myself not to get too attached because they only live so long. But I always do....can't help it. They love you even when you look and feel like crap. How many people do you know will do that???


Speaking of new additions.....my Pekingese is prego. Our youngest chihuahua is the Daddy. Pekachi is actually a recognized hybrid breed. I just hope they take after the Mommas. She's a gorgeous white silky haired Pekingese. The Daddy is about 5 lbs and a red head. His Mother however was a white long haired. She looked like a miniature Afghan Hound. She was smaller and a real beauty.

Dear Pet Guy -

I wanted to give you an update on the training... so far, pitiful looks are working 100% for table food and a soft whine is sure to get me scritched behind the ears.  One thing I hadn't counted on was the brushing!!  Every time I lay down and look cute while they are watching TV, they say... "Oh my goodness... does someone want to get brushed?"  I'm like...uh no, I'm just laying here!!!!  But they brush me anyway and the worst part is my tail... I always try to bite the brush when they do my tail but they don't take the hint.  Mom says that I'm such a good girl so I must be doing something right when I bite the brush!!  My favorite part of my new home is the treats or maybe it's the love... I haven't decided yet.

Anyway, I just wanted to say Good morning back but I have to go now... Mom is mad because I'm drooling on her laptop... Go figure!!!

Platzki - super glad to here to she is doing so well and all are adjusting!  What a gift to adopt and have 'good behavior' - that's just such a blessing - Mackenzie was meant to join your family girl!!

CherryPits - I can't wait to see what the pups are gonna look like - way too cool!!!  Keep us posted and we will want pictures!! 

Yes - our pets are a huge part of our life, and quite frankly - around here - I love my dog more than my teen-agers most days....
