This should be fun! Jumping Smiley

I met Lenny Barker, he's a legend in Cleveland. May 15, 1981 he pitched a perfect game for the Cleveland Indians. After retirement he started a Home Improvement Business called Perfect Pitch Construction. We had a tree fall on the back of our house and our insurance company suggested 3 different companies that they work with and his was one of them. Of course I called him first. My dad came over and all three of my boys went and found a baseball for him to sign. He was very gracious and joked around with my boys. They thought it was so cool. I still have a message from him on my answering machine!

Who have you met?

My youngest boy is the same age as George Brett's boy.  We were playing against them in a local league game, so at the end of the game when they were going thru the 'good job' lane - my boy asked if he could shake George's hand!  He was very kind and gracious, shook his hand and told him to get 'something' for him to sign if he desired an autograph.  My boy whipped off his hat, and George signed it for him-very cool!

Now flash back 20+ years ago when the Royals were in the WS  --  I was out and about one night, and the whole team was at the club.  It was an off night, but I was still surprised they were out/about - it may have been after the series (I'm too old to remember)!  Anyways, my girlfriends and I got to meet the whole team.  Of course, we were a ton younger and a ton cuter - so they actually found 'us'.

Great thread!

Never met anyone famous but when I lived in NY I saw some famous people. I was shopping in the same store as Diana Ross. That was really cool. She is stunning. The store was Betsy Johnson when she was just getting started in business.

I saw Liza Minelli waiting for a cab early in the morning. Looked like she was finishing an all nighter, scary looking.

Adam Ant walking down the street. And lots of soap stars. They would actually take the subway or ride their bikes to work. This was back in the 80's so maybe they weren't getting paid a lot.

Super cool on who you 'see' when you least expect it!!  This is  :offtopic , but when we were super young, my brother got very, very ill.  Long story short, a friend of my parents knew Jimmy Carter (the pres. of the day).  Thru connections and communications, one day while my brother was recuperating, we opened the mailbox to 'see' an official pres. seal on an envelope!!

Inside, a personal note to my brother, hoping he got well soon and had a speedy and outstanding recovery!!!

Pretty cool - I'm certain my bro still has it on his wall!!

Darn it - I meant to include this too!!!  I do enjoy this thread - just to see who all has met others, how, what, when, etc.

I am so tired, don't know if I mentioned this or not - but my Softball Club is called 6 Degrees (as is 6 degrees of separation).  We've been hanging together for about 10 years, and long before the drama came onto TV.  Research 6 Degrees of Sep. on the internet and it's 'us' to a T!   hysterical hysterical hysterical

Hey, this is a cool thread!  I haven't met any sports stars but a few entertainers.  I met B.B. King & Bonnie Raitt at concerts and Gregory Hines on the street in New York.  I also saw (but didn't meet) Robert DeNiro on a film set in NYC.  Oh, and I had a few dates with Ving Rhames back n the 90's (well semi-famous & not all that memorable, LOL!).

That's all I can remember.

Shelley - that's super cool.  I do like Bonnie Raitt - would love to have met her at some point ----- hasn't happened!!!

I don't get too far from KS, and I can tell ya - the 'famous' folks do not come here very often - very, very boring here.... :bye7:  blink1 :beers1:

Yeah, well, it's not like we were hanging out (but wouldn't that be great!) - it was more like "Hi, nice to meet you - love your music" and that's about it!  This was ages ago, likely early 80's.  She did a benefit concert called "Water for Life" or something like that.  John Lee Hooker was there too - would have been fun to meet him.

When I was a wee little girl of 9 I met country singer Charlie Pride in the Houston Airport. I had no clue who he was, and he asked me "honey do you know who I am"? I said nope, he laughed and laughed. He even signed a napkin for me.

What a nice guy.

The year we were dating (74), we were invited to the "gold circle" dinner at the clubhouse where Ray worked. This was the special dinner for the big contributors for the Greater Milwaukee Open PGA golf tournament where they would mingle with the pros. Sam Sneed was seated at the table right behind us. I don't think Arnold Palmer was there that year, but he was at the tournament one of the early years shortly after we were married.

The tournament also used to have a Pro-Am with at least a couple of Celebs. I didn't get to meet him, but Jerry Lewis was there 1 year (he was a PITB). Another year Bob Hope was there. He was great. Didn't actually "meet" him, but got awfully close on the course. Before I met Ray he told me about the year Frank Sinatra was there for the Italian Open ( a local tournament). Frank's own personal security team was greater than the whole crew we had for the GMO. He said that was a hoot.

In the late 70's sometime we were skiing in Salt Lake City and did Sundance 1 day. While eating in the lodge, Redford came walking by with some seminar students. I was surprised that he was actually there.  While he is good looking, his hair at that time looked awful, rather "orange" and very dry and damaged looking. Just surprised me that it didn't look better.

That's about the extent of my brushes with the "rich and famous".

I actually thought of a couple more.

Long before I met Ray, he was the superentendant at Stevens Point Country Club. At that time a member of the club was the head of the University there. Ray knew him. Years later he became our Wisconsin Gov. - Lee Dreyfus.

A few years ago when we were on vacation in Cancun we went down to Tulum and were going to go further south for something. We stoped at a little roadside restaurant in Tulum for lunch. The owner/cook/waiter (1 guy was the whole staff) was wearing a t-shirt with his own pic on it and something in Spanish. As best I could figure with my bad Spanish, he had been running for Mayor of Tulum the year before. We asked him if he won or not. Yes he was the Mayor of Tulum. He was rather happy too that "Gringos" had noticed.

Not really famous people except locally.
