I've been getting paid emails for this site for about a week and it didn't really hit me until I went to the site. It reminds me of the old x.com site...pre-PayPal.

You get $25 added to your account if you join and then $10 per referral. The catch? It's by invitation only. Like ING Direct did several years ago. So if you think you may be interested, send me a PM and I will let you know more.

You say it has the potential of being better then PP, and easier to use then GC, but does it hold your money for ransom like PP does or does it put it right into your account like GC does? You definately have me curious...

It's in beta so I'm sure things will change according to demand. It is backed by an actual bank...unlike PP. You can have it transfered to your bank account just like PP. The only draw back is that it doesn't have a button/link to add to your auctions. But in saying that, it could be a great way to get people to try it. Something like, 'Tired of PP and all the fees? Ask me how you can get $25 for opening an account with a new online payment option!'

Since they are new, holding funds will probably only be when there is a questionable transaction, like with any bank.

Okay... Miss Erin.. Anyone?
I want to be able to use this in my zen cart. Does anyone know how I can? Can anyone guide me in this? I've read in psu Erin, that you've used it in your auctions. I want to totally disable paypal. The more I hear about it and the pending changes, the more it makes me nervous. And I never liked paypal anyway, but until googlecart came around, didn't have much choice. A real merchant account is no good for me at this point, as I don't make enough sales yet to have to pay those kind of monthly "gateway" and other fees. So... is there a simple way for a numbnut like me to be able to incorporate this into my websites?

Ummm my guess would be you will be waiting a long time before this could be used in Zen. #1 it is very new and unproven. There would have to be a coding between Zen and this alternative payment method in order for it to work and as it is unproven that would most likely be months if not years away. #2 as a substitute for a merchant account this is not the way to go because buyers would have to register an account with themm to begin with. Again it is still very new and people are hesitent enough with Google Checkout about registering as it is.

RevolutionMoney is only an option if you're a low volume seller:

Quote
You can receive payments to your MoneyExchange account of up to $1000 per day, not to exceed $2500 per calendar month, through MoneyExchange.

and:

Quote
The maximum Account balance you may have on your Account is two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500).

The processing limits rule it out as a true competitor to other alternative payment methods like PayPal or Google Checkout.

I think Amazon FPS would be a more attractive option for most sellers (especially since 80 million buyers are already registered for Amazon payments) but nobody has shown any interest in developing a ZenCart mod for it.

Quote
Again it is still very new

Which means very few buyers will opt to use it. Buyer demand (not seller preference) should be the main factor when deciding to offer an alternative payment method.

edit:
Quote
zen cart

If you do a lot of international business you might want to consider adding the Moneybookers ZenCart mod...if your business is primarily US based don't bother.

As it right now, I am a low volumn seller (hope that after getting everything figured out that will change.... but), and I don't ship internationally right now. I am just trying to figure out something else besides pay-pal as a low cost (for now) option in buying things on my sites. I really hate pay-pal, and frankly don't trust them as far as i can spit (hey! no spitting smilies??). I am/will be offering incentives to use google cart over pay-pal on my websites, but would like another alternative so I could eliminate pay-pal altogether. All true merchant accounts carry fees much too high at this time for someone who does low volumn sales, and what is a gateway fee anyway? All I now is that is the highest cost in most of these. I will have to check into this Amazon FPS thing. Never heard of it until now.

Julz - I am zen-cart illiterate, but doubt that RME is an 'auto-option' for any shopping cart.  To augment what bbhc says, it is currently in beta.  My hope is it will expand, but is limited right now.

If you desire to try and use it with your site/sales, stop by Knapp's site.  She's added some verbiage to promote use of RME via a discount and/or free shipping.

http://knapps-fresh-vegies.netfirms.com/

Essentially though, for you to use RME today, it will be a manual process.  I've added it where I can as an option, and like Carol do promote, just not too much yet.

I am managing 4 softball teams this year, starting next week.  The financial piece of 'this' is chaotic and I hate it.  So, I just sent a message out to all the players offering them RME to use as a payment option.  It would make my life a ton easier than dealing with 39 checks/cash/etc - at a ballfield...

Don't know if anyone will want to or not, but offering it as an option.  I also accept PP and GCO for collecting fees from my teams - of course, they pay fees!!  hysterical hysterical hysterical

Well, I guess you and I are in the same sinking zencart literacy boat, huh?  But Erin, thank you for your response. I am already putting into place a 5% discount to anyone who uses the googlecart to purchase their items. I am going to add soon that pay-pal will no longer be accepted for purchasing. RME I can see will be too complicated for buyers at this point, and hopefully, it will come across with a way to be used in websites/auctions. I have to re-check into pro-pay, as I have heard that they were good, and had low fees. I'm hoping that once I have everything done at all of my sites, then I can begin a heavy promotion of them and then things will change.  Keeping my fingers crossed (making if very hard to type though!  ).
