Hey all - courtesy of another forum, here is a candid conversation between some smart folks in the e-Commerce arena.  It's 39 pages, but is a good read and a quick read - it's typed minutes from a conference call.

http://www.plunderhere.co...hemes/blue/layout/h_1.gif

I'm reading again to 'get it' - so I can speak to it....but definitely gives hope to a few that understand the changes, the effect and the impact.

Well, this is another – this is smoke and mirrors – this DSR discount. Because I asked – there were 200 top sellers, the 200 very top sellers at eBay were at that conference. And I asked the question in front of John Donahoe and the whole eBay executive team during the question-and-answer session – and I wanted to know how many of the 200 sellers in that room which are the top sellers – had DSRs of 4.8 or above on all four categories because that’s what it takes to get the discount. And ten of them raised their hand.

WOW

Quote
The third thing is only one of those top 100 sellers qualified for the 15% discount. Now it’s funny because if you look at 4.5 or better – eBay’s new power seller requirement – item as described 99% of the top 100 sellers are in there. Communication 93%, shipping time 81%. But shipping fee was 44%.
eBay should not even have shipping fee in there cause it’s the only one of the four DSRs that the buyer knows with 100% certainty what those costs are up front. It was clearly communicated and even John Donahoe’s coming out and saying, “Buyers have remorse after the fact about what they paid for shipping and handling.”

Quote
And also you have to keep in mind that our sellers that give free shipping – which should translate to 05 only get a 4.7 on DSRs.

The shipping will always be the one part of DSR that is guaranteed to eventually bring all sellers feedback down.

So even doing free shipping those sellers don't have a 4.8 to qualify for the discount.

Thanks Erin, it was a very interesting conversation.

You're welcome!  I was excited that someone actually 'sees' that it will be very, very difficult to meet the biggest discount, and even those who do know are 100% subject to 'the buyers' opinion'.  It is interesting to have 'that' in there when shipping is disclosed on the front end...

And....if ebaY were smart, they'd tell sellers that the list price 'must' include shipping, remove that DSR and they income would be 'improved' - as they get FVF on 'item cost/price'.

I suspect that will be next, so there's one more fixed income item for the Balance Sheet.

It's long but there are some parts in there worth the read!!

I like their idea of replacing the shipping ranking to would you buy from this seller again. That info is not only more valuable, but way way less punitive than the current system.

Ebay historically hasn't changed their moves, even when proven to be detrimental to sellers and Ebay. So I would be very surprised if they do.

Well I think the main reasoning behind having it in there...despite the fact it is listed up front, is because of the sellers who make their profit in the Shipping/Handling.  Although I do think if you agree to pay that price and click on that Buy button you really shouldn't complain after the fact.

That being said.... (aka here comes a Rat to play devil's advocate)  hysterical

I for one wouldn't like having to pay FVFs on shipping.  I already don't appreciate PayPal taking a cut of it.  If eBay does decide to do that, it will cause S&H fees to go up and be detrimental to the 'buyer experience'.

Liz the biggest problem I see with "would you buy from this Seller again" is the idiot factor.  You know there will be a ton of eBay buyers who will answer 'No' just because the Seller doesn't have anything else they want or need. hysterical hysterical hysterical

Maybe the Star Ratings should be based on a give and take system as follows:

Please review your transaction carefully and...

ADD
- One for each stupid email you sent the Seller and they patiently replied to you...BEFORE you made the purchase.
- Two for each subsequent stupid email you sent AFTER you made the purchase.
- Three for each day between the time you made the purchase and you finally got around to paying for it.
- Four for each day the Seller DID NOT send you a nasty payment reminder.
- Five for receiving your item and it being accurately described.

DEDUCT (This means take away)
- One for the blistering email the Seller sent you after stupid question #5 BEFORE you made the purchase.
- Two for the 'cussed you like a dog' email the Seller sent you after asking stupid question #10 AFTER you made the purchase.
- Three if the Seller finally quit communicating and responding to your stupid questions altogether.
- Four if you received your order, but it was shipped in a used greasy pizza box.
- Five if you never received your package and the Seller says it's not their problem because you opted not to buy insurance.
-Ten if any of the seller's emails contained a link or suggested you buy from their main store at Wagglepop.  hysterical hysterical hysterical hysterical hysterical

What do y'all think?
