Ebay Best Match Coming Soon

At some point in March, eBay will make a big change on the US site. Best Match will become the default sort on eBay.com. If you want to play around with the new Best Match before it launches, I suggest you go to eBay's Playground, where you can test out the new sort. The version shown in the playground may not be the final version, but it will give you an idea at least.

With Best Match Store items no longer sort by lowest price. So if that has been your strategy up to this point, you may want to see how you will be affected.

FYI: It appears as if what will be critical now is keyword optimization, as Deb and Joe have told us all. See how your items currently listed on Ebay are doing with the test. Share with us how your items did.

OK.....now - I do not get what 'best match' means.  I did a search for 'volcom jeans'.

My little dude is a skater.  So - up comes 'best match'. 

First seller has 99.9% feedback - quantity of 1,859 total.

Second seller has 98.8% feedback - quantity of 659 total.

Third seller has 99.8% feedback - quantity of 1,549 total.

Why is seller 3 not above seller 2?  Seller 3 has higher DSR too.

Explain it to me.....I am glad that they leave the other sort options there cuz this makes no sense to me (as a buyer)!!!

Lets put it this way, I had to search for somebody else selling the same stuff. I control the category when searching for keywords I optimized for.

I've been playing around with best match and with most of the items I am selling when I sort by best match my items shoot up towards the top.. so I am thinking it might help me out.... who knows.. I know that other sellers aren't optimizing their keywords for best match yet so it might be a short lived advantage. We shall see I guess.

I guess....I need another education.  If I only use a 2 word search, and each of those 3 listings had the two words, and the 2nd and 3rd actually had them in order (compared to the 1st place item) - what is the system doing and how? 

I'll not be able to comprehend anything tonight, but will try to digest whatever Joe tells me in the AM.  PM is not prime thinking time 4 me!!!

Erin I believe it searches the title first, not sure. Many sellers don't optimize both title and listings with keywords. I could be totally off on this, but feel secure in knowing that Joe will correct me if I am.

Thanks nana girl, hey did you notice the shoes size buttons in my eBay store that Deb recently did? They are awesome, Deb is amazing when it comes to tweaking the heck out of a site!!!

Still working out prices on that but we are doing TPG's eBay store over now to help bring in the funds they need while Martha recovers.

Psst, there is another super secret eBay store partnered with a new website. Deb has been busy tweaking that lately and it is based off my business plan for leather gear. If this one works out I think ebook will be in order on that business plan and how to make it work.

I am pleased and very greatfull to have The "Jodeb" or "Dejoe" team helping us. We do need the help and the hopeful funds. Their helping us with this will make the difference as to rather we stay working on-line or not. Our on-line efforts haven't done well for the past year or so. We need this to help provide us with some income.
