Come See What The SECRET Is All About!

« on: July 23, 2007, 10:53:12 AM »

So you have your store open. You have your items listed. What's next on the checklist?
Let's work on the store description today.

When I first opened my eCrater store I threw some words in the description area so I could move along to start the process of listing. Just over the weekend I went and looked at it:

"Offering quality health and beauty items at affordable prices.

If you are looking for a particular product and you don’t see it, please email me and I can see about getting it for you. If you are looking for more of a particular product contact me I might be able to help you out.

Thank you for looking at my store and I look forward to doing business with you."

Now that wasn't too bad, but I noticed that a lot of the information could be moved to the FAQ section and freed up some to be able to describe my store more. After sitting down and thinking a little on it I came up with this:

"Offering you quality health and beauty products at affordable prices.

Carrying makeup such as mascara, lipstick, blush, eye shadow, foundation, perfume, colognes, hair care products, skin care, sun care and more by manufacturers such as Max Factor, Almay, Physicians Formula, Revlon, L’Oreal, Bonne Bell, Maybelline, Naturistics, Covergirl, Garnier, Banana Boat, Jordache and more.

Come take a look and see what the secret is all about!"

Since changing the description on the store page I've had more sales over the weekend.

Now its your turn, go look at your store description. Can it be cleaned up some? Can you make it better for customers to find you? Good luck and share your before and after if you like!

Excellent advice Patti!

Your store description is the perfect opportunity to load up on keywords for the search engine bots AND tell your customers what they can find in your store.  A good description can make or break your entire store.

Thanks for the post Patti,

I took a look and cleaned up my store a bit.  Sometimes you forget to go back and update and clean up from time to time.  My house cleaning is complete.

I am trying to let people who find one of my eCrater stores know about the other. This is what I am using on all my eCrater stores. Any thoughts?

OMG! This is funny! BECAUSE...

The other day I was trying to set up my META Tags, and could NOT get it to work. I was just SUPPER frustrated. Then I had a potty break and came back and looked at my store's description to find that there wasn't any! OMG! That was like a bright light bulb shining above my head!

I'm not a blonde... but man, I have my moments!

BTW - after doing the store description, my META Tags worked just fine!  rah rah

Have a great day!

Since html is not allowed on eCrater, I think what you have above is a great idea!  Not that anyone wants to edit every listing (BTDT - been there, done that) - but you actually should put this in each listing - just my suggestion.  I say this as I think most shoppers that find us on eCrater find us from Google or Google Products search.  If/when they click thru, they do not land at your store front, but rather at your item.

So - I have all my 'stuff' repeated in each listing as well as in each policy area of my store.  This is 'so' at every site I list.  I also make sure that shopper know that I combine shipping across stores and across venues!  Just another 'incentive' to keep them shopping.

One final 'idea' that I do and might help you - when I send my thank you for your order message with the shipping confirmation - even when they've paid - I remind them that they can save by combining shipping.  I invite them to return to my store(s) and shout if they want/need a modified invoice!

I also enclose a flyer that thanks them and tells them where they can find me!  When I was on Yahoo too, I had several cross-venue sales from a variety of folks.  It's an admin. nightmare for the seller, but buyer love saving $$ and are often willing to look more if they know they can!

I hope this helps!!

You're welcome!  I did my flyer in Power Point, as coming from the corporate world, it's a very easy tool for me to use.  Also, if I need to change things - easy for me to do!  I'd gladly share it with you if you need the 'creative juice' input.  It's simple and one page - but 'pretty'!!

We paid for the home page featured item for the months of Oct, Nov, and Dec on eCrater. Oct is gone with only one sale and only two questions being asked. Very disappointing to say the least. Not so much with eCrater but with mysell. We just don't do well with internet sales with our own sites, eCrater, bid ville, please forgive me WP, Several people, some here at The Crabby Host, have helped us but nothing seem to work.  I don't understand enough about what I'm doing to be good at it.

I'm also a 'noob' or 'numpty' when it comes to all this.  I do think tho, relative to eCrater, most folks don't get to an item from the front page.  If I were a betting person, I believe the traffic I do see comes from bots (now that Joe made me smarter) and also from google product searches.  I can't validate that, so my best guess!

Anybody else?
