Come See What The SECRET Is All About!

« on: September 04, 2007, 02:46:47 PM »

Good afternoon all -

So here I am with my Zen site. I'm very excited. So excited that I would like to be able to give all my customers a 10% off coupon when they sign up.

Here is my dilemma - I'm not quiet sure how to do this. I have the coupon made up but .... How many times do I let the coupon be used? How many uses per user? How do you email this coupon out to your customer list?

Any help with any aspect of this would be greatly appreciated.

Patty

I offer a 10% coupon for all new customers when they complete the signup form. I have a auto reply message that is emailed to them with the code for getting the 10% off. Thay can only use this code once. I plan to send a newsletter out after the they go onto my mailing list with additional discounts different code that is only good for a certain amount of time. I used to work full time for the State of Minnesota. I plan to offer a discount on all Minnesota employees purchases with a ungoing code for them.

Bob -

Can I ask how you went about setting that up? I am at a complete loss on how to do it.

Thank you!

You setup the coupon in your adminstration under Gift Certificates/coupons. With the dropdown menu click on coupon manager. I named the coupon New Customer the rest is pertty stright foward. It will ask for amount of discount and when you want coupon to start and when you want to quit offering the coupon. Also how many times the customer can use the coupon. I believe the information is inserted into the welcome letter that is setup in the adminstation consel. You can see a sample of this letter under tools, Welcome Letter. Your sure welcome to signup on my website to see how this works You don't have to buy anything to signup and hopefully you'll get my welcome letter and you could let me know if something is wrong or not working.

Hi Robert,

What a great idea!  Could I bother you for instructions on how to do this?  I would love to be able to do something like this as well.

Thanks So Much,

Hey Bays!

Go into your Zen Cart Admin > Gift Certificate/Coupons > Coupon Admin

Create a coupon by just basically filling in the blanks.
I usually 'name' my coupon code so I can also post it in other places.

After you've created the coupon, go to Configuration > GV Coupons

Click on New Signup Discount Coupon ID# (3rd one down)
There should be a dropdown box with your newly created coupon listed in it. Select it and click update.

That's it!  When someone signs up/registers on your site, the coupon code will be automatically emailed to them in their Welcome Email.

Thanks Girlfriend!  I got it done and it is all starting to come together.

I have been working on my drop down boxes and that part has been lots of fun.

Thanks Again!

Ok, I was so exited  when I found this link.... but I have one BIG problem  sniff. On my drop down menu... it does NOT say anything about a coupon. The three (3) options I have are: GIFT CERTIFICATE QUEUE ~ MAIL GIFT CERTIFICATE ~ GIFT CERTIFICATE SENT.
So... how do I get to the point where I can do a coupon?

Also.... I really, REALLY want to encourage the use of alternate pay methods (i.e. google cart)instead of paypal and want a way to give, oh, let's say, and ADDITIONAL 5% off any item if they pay using google cart. Is there a way to do that? I really hate the way paypal basically holds your money for ransome, and would much prefer the way that googlecart and the newest one (when they do merchant links) process the cards.

Okay, I think I found my problem (with the help of friends of course!  love grin ), the coupon admin was not turned on. So now it is, and I will *TRY* to see if I can't figure this out.

BUT.... I still need help in figuring out if there is a way to give an additional discount on people why pay using googlecart instead of pay pal.

A coupon for Google Checkout is set from within the Google Checkout control panel. Setting a coupon in Zen will not apply to Google Checkout unless you go into Google Checkout and configure it so yes you can set different discounts that way.

You will need to go to your Google Checkout account.
Click on the 'Tools' tab.
Look in the left hand side and you will see Coupons.
Just follow their instructions.

Then somewhere on your website, you will need to tell people that if they use GC there is a such and such discount.
