Hi Wes,

My personal opinion is this. Too many colors, from my experience with websites you should have no more then 3 main colors that MATCH (yes IMO the colors don't match). My recomendation would be to redo the logo and flow the site from the logo out. The yellow color outside of the search box drives me nuts. Maybe pick a team or a group of teams that have similar colors and match to that in the logo and the site itself. As I have said in the past, the who's online is not something buyers need to see. The reviews as well should be turned off until you get a review. Link your text to categories or products. Lastly the blue doesn't go with the brown/orange/rust color. If I had to choose I would choose the blue as the main color. The other color isn't something you traditionaly see within sports.

Hope this helps.

joe  thx   the yellow is gone

the yellow around the search box Wes? Sorry I still see it. It looks like somebody taped around it to paint it and forgot to take the tape off. Hold on I will post a screen shot of it so there is no misunderstanding of where I am seeing it.

I see it fine in FireFox but IE 7 it looks like the screenshot above. Personally I prefer using IE 7 but recommend you always check in multiple options.

Obervations:

1. not accepting any form of online payment is going to drive 99% of your potential customers away
2. not having a merchant account is going to drive 90% of your potential customers away
3. not having an SSL certificate is going to drive a substantial portion of your potential customers away (you should have one even if you don't accept credit card payments...buyers want to see the lock symbol when they are checking out...an SSL cert gives buyers an added sense of security that they are dealing with a well established business that isn't going to disappear overnight).
4. website customers have different expectations than auction site buyers (see #1,2,3)

Ditto.  Get rid of the sponsor sidebox and the bottom banner too.

   joe  IE 7

Hmmm that's funny, I have checked it on several machines and every time in IE 7 I see the yellow around the search box. In fact TTW took the screenshot in IE 7 in a different state then where I am so I would say your issue is this:

A Cherry Zen template, which is what your template is (with color changes) comes with the search box in the upper toolbar. You can also turn on the sidebox search box but the template was designed to have the one in the upper toolbar. Moving the search out of that toolbar would require customization.

If you are not doing anything to the template other then color changes I would recommend you stick with the way the template was designed, AKA turn the upper toolbar search back on and turn off the sidebox search bar.

Hope this helps.

Hey Wes went over to have a look.

My first impressions were its ok, but I don't like the colours used.

I think, personally you should use the header logo as a starting ground.

Example..

You have the text in your logo as a Dark Green (Very dark green).

Use 3 shades of green for the template. Now get this right and it will look awesome, pick the wrong greens and it will look a mess.

Also loose the pink border/background behind or around the product images you have.

Besides that I can see you are putting some though into it.

But as always these are just my opinions and the site is yours and the choices are yours alone..

Good look with whatever you decide to do.

Yep most of that is my fault as I was placing different colors on his site so that he can make up his mind on his color scheme.     His header was one that I did before he wanted to redo his sites colors and that I'm sure he will have redone to match his new colors as that is no real big problem.

I think Wes loves the color green and just needs help with a color scheme for his site.  He also loves the rust color that is going on in his site as well.

What Cha Think Everyone?      Any great ideas?  Any color image pics that we can look at?

Bolding mine.

In all my experience with websites I have never seen a logo designed around color choices. It is always the other way around when dealing with custom site templates. The logo is the brand and what everyone first sees when landing on the website itself. Trying to design a logo around colors is unheard of.

IMO (please note at The Crabby Host we do NOT sugarcoat things to make you feel better) the colors don't fit the product. IMO the very first thing somebody who wants an independent website should be concerned about is a way to GET PAID ONLINE. Here is my reasoning to that last point:

Online shoppers want to do it all online. That means payment, and they want to feel secure as well. When I shop online I don't want to have to call somebody to ask how to pay nor do I want to write out a check or money order, drive to the post office and mail it off. I want everything to be at my fingertips.

Recommendations.

1) Setup online payments first
2) Purchase an SSL Cert.
3) Purchase a custom designed Logo. As I said pick a team or group of teams with similar colors.
4) Flow the site colors around that logo
5) Please remove the pink background from the pictures of cards. Recommend a black background for lighter cards and a white background for the darker cards.
