OK I have a question, or questions.

If you want to use say the keywords womens shoes, but some folks use women's shoes, would it be a good idea to use both based on the fact that buyers may or may not use the apostrophe? Or is there a standard or rule of how many keywords to use say on the item. Is it possible to tick off google?

Also I know that I have read to use keywords with common misspellings, and that many searches looked at by keyword are not spelled correctly. No speel chik I guss

I personally would never misspell anything in one of my Titles on purpose.  If it's on your website, put common misspellings in your meta tags.

Yes it is possible to piss Google off, but you follow the rule of 'does this read and sound ok to a human' then the bots usually won't get upset.

As far as the 's thing...best thing to do is (at least what I always did), first figure out which one gets the most searches, second switch it up in your listings.  Use one part of the time, use the other sometimes.

When it comes to keyword Meta tags DO NOT use the apostrophe!!! Google base used to kick out titles with an apostrophe in them. If you look at TTP you will notice the Categories don't have an apostrophe. The script wouldn't allow it.

Conclusion:

The bot's DO NOT recognize the apostrophe all the time and it will cause disruption in many cases. Could be a reason for some items not showing up in Google products even though they were fed to Google base.

Excellent point about the apostrophe Joe.  I had forgotten that part. That's a very real possiblity about Google Base too I hadn't thought about.

If you do put one in your meta tags you have to 'comment it out'.  At least I know in a Zen Cart you do.  You have to put women\'s or it will fubarb and break the whole site. blink1

Don't ask how I know.

I meant to say misspell in the metatags thingy, not in my item title or description

Not that it wouldn't happen, but not on purpose.

Well.....that whole apostrophe thing is a pain.  As well as sites that have a & in their product name.  I have not ever figured out a great way to deal with this to help ensure best 'search' returns, but know they cause me anxiety every time I list one.

This information is priceless!  I will say that because of smarter folks than I, I get smarter each and every day!  Sometimes, I'm getting so smart - my brain hurts.... hysterical hysterical

But - the always desire to keep us learning is truly appreciated !!!

...darn it - that enter key is too close to my happy fingers!

When my fingers work faster than my brain, and when the same applies to others, you'd be amazed at how many combinations one can come up with - just for my name (thank goodness folks won't be searching on that term)!
